What is Imagine Miami? What is the Human Services Coalition?
Imagine Miami is the "civic network" of an innovative Miami-based nonprofit, the Human Services Coalition (HSC). HSC is home to programs that help Miami-Dade residents become leaders and advocates in their community; we also connect low-income residents to financial supports through our Prosperity Campaign.

Our civic network is a way to connect the participants in HSC programs with each other and with other people who are working to make Miami-Dade a better place, whether as a volunteer or as part of their job. HSC advocacy programs including the Neighborhood Leadership Program, the Parent Leadership Training Institute, ACT (Advocacy Training Corps), Public Allies, Creative Impact (storytelling for social change). HSC also produces at least two Imagine Miami Changemaker Conferences a year, as well as seasonal Conversation Cafes (breakfast panels on topic of interest).

What is the Purpose of this "Ning"?
We envision communities that are more just, inclusive,  sustainable and collaborative. By creating and hosting this Ning, which we call a "civic network" instead of "social network," we hope to connect people, organizations and businesses that want to improve quality of life in Miami-Dade. We also use this site to connect people to ideas and tools for action, and to true, inspirational stories of people who are making a difference -- especially at the local level.

We encourage participation in multiple networking groups and social organizations. We need to encourage all kinds of networking here in Miami-Dade! We also encourage you to participate regardless of whether your top issue is violence prevention, environmental protection, health access or any other topic that affects our communities.

How is Imagine Miami different from other networks?
As we are different for each of our members, our only answer for that is try us and find out for yourself.

Do I have to live in Miami-Dade, FL to be a member?
No, but since we are heavily focused on improving the Miami-Dade/South Florida area, it would make sense if you had some sort of ties to this area.

I'm new to social networking. How do I make the most of this group?
One key tip: tell us about yourself through your profile and participation in discussions. Tell your story on the blogs or in the Forum. Connect with others who share your interest. Go to events listed in the Events calendar and meet fellow changemakers face to face.

What are your Calendar & Email Policies?
We only use email blasts from this Groupsite for official Human Services Coalition events and announcements (although sponsorships are possible - details later).
